Lady Lions compete in West Texas Relays

The Ozona Lady Lions competed in the 70th annual West Texas Relays Saturday in Odessa. Due to high winds, vertical jumping events were canceled. GIRLS DIVISION I Team Totals - 1. Cedar Hill, 154 points; 2. Permian, 126; 3. Odessa High, 106; 4. Midland High, 63; 5. Midland Lee, 49; 6. Carlsbad (N.M.), 24; 7. Ozona, 21; 8. Hobbs (N.M.), 15. Discus - 1. Vivian Medina, 100 feet, 5 inches (won on  better second throw). Triple jump - 6. Estefania

Lady Lions claw Lady Owls in final pre-district game

The Lady Lions finished their preconference season with a strong showing against class 2A Big Lake, defeating them by a score of 19-8 on March 7. The Ozona Lady Lions have an overall record of 12 wins 6 losses and 1 tie
headed into Spring Break “We are very excited about where we are at this particular point headed into the district season. We really feel like all the pieces have fallen into place and we are looking forward to a very challenging,
fun, exciting district run,” said Coach Butch Gonzalez.

Powerlifting Lady Lions state bound

The OHS Lady Lions Powerlifting Team competed in the Regional Meet on Feb. 28 in Mertzon. Lady Lions Ashley Vargas and Nicole Higgins qualified for the state competition March 13-15 in Corpus Christi. Higgins finished third in the 148-pound class.

Lady Lions defend championship at Ozona Relays

The Lady Lions were successful in defending their home turf for the second straight year on Saturday at the Ozona Relays. The Lady Lions scored 200 points, besting area foe Iraan and rival Sonora by a large distance. Team Totals - Ozona 200; Iraan 125; Sonora 114; Irion County 77; Eldorado 54; Reagan County 43. The Lady Lions started off the day with strong performances in the field events and the two mile.

Lions compete in La Pryor Tourney

The Ozona Lions Baseball team traveled to La Pryor Texas for a three day tournament this past weekend. “We played well throughout the tournament going 1-2 in the three games,” said Coach Ray Talamantes.  The Lions first game was against Antonian JV out of San Antonio. “We played a very good defensive game but could not produce any runs losing the game 1-0 in 6 innings,” Talamantes said. “Senior Emilio Mendez pitched a great game
giving up only two hits the entire game.”

Lady Lions have strong showing in Sonora Tourney

The OHS Lady Lions competed in the Sonora Tournament over the weekend. The tournament started Friday with 55 minute poolplay games.“The Lady Lions used this type of format to see a lot of players in different positions
and combinations to try and solidify their starting nine. I like this type of format early in the season because it allows some of our players to play different positions and it allows me (the coach) to see what combination of players play best together – success in team sports depends so much with team chemistry,” said Coach Butch Gonzalez. “Right now the girls are still learning that whether you are on the field or not there are still roles you have to play
and things you can do to help the team, but the good thing is they are willing to learn

The OHS Lady Lions Softball Team won their season opener, 21-7, over Reagan County on Feb. 14. Pitching – Samantha De La Garza and Kamryn Lozano; Catcher – Rachel Mendoza. Runs scored: Madison Childress 3; Lexi Poindexter 4; Lozano 5; Mendoza 2; Bethany Martinez 1; Asia Lara 1; Bobbie Jo Vargas 1; Bri Sanchez 3; Kerstin Dane 1. The Lady Lions then competed in the Van Horn Tournament on Feb. 15.
