Shooters compete in annual Ozona meet

On May 10, the annual Crockett County 4-H Shoot at the Ozona Trap and Skeet Range was held. This years event had 52 participants from a total of 14 counties across Texas. Overall, the shoot threw 7,000 clay pigeons throughout the day with each shooter shooting 125 rounds, plus shoot-offs.

THE OZONA LIONS lost their area game series to Ben Bolt, 6-0 and 4-3, on May 9-10 in San Antonio. The Lions season ends with a co-district and bi-district championships

Lions win Bi-District Championship

The Ozona Lions Baseball team came back from a 0-1 series deficit and won 6-2 and 11-10 to earn the bi-district title over Brackett last week. Ozona now moves on to the Area Round to face Ben Bolt at the SAISD Athletic
Complex in San Antonio. Game 1 will be 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 9. Game 2 will be noon Saturday, May 10 and Game 3 (if necessary) right after Game 2.

Lady Lions fall to Haskell in area round

The Lady Lions softball season came to an end last week. Ozona lost to Haskell in the three-game area playoff series. Haskell defeated the Lady Lions 11-0 on May 1 in Abilene and 7-2 May 3 in San Angelo. Coach Butch Gonzalez said the Lady Lions “battled” against a team that has made the playoffs nine times in the last 10 years and the state semi-finals the last two consecutive years

Lions, Lady Lions set records at regionals

Six OHS athletes are headed to the UIL State Track Meet after qualifying in the Region I-1A meet held April 25-26 in Levelland. McKenna Moses is the Regional Champion in high jump with a jump of 5-feet, 2-inches and the Regional Champion in pole vault, where she cleared 10-feet, 9-inches, a personal best and new school record.

District Champs

THE OHS LADY LIONS SOFTBALL TEAM clinched the District Championship on April 15 with a 16-0 win over McCamey. That was also Senior Night and the final home game of the regular season for the Lady Lions. Seniors Samantha De La Garza, Vivian Medina and Jordyn Lexi Poindexter were honored.

Regional Bound

The OHS Lions and Lady Lions competed at the Districts 7/8-1A Area Championships Thursday in Wink. The Lady Lions placed second as a team and the Lions placed third. Vivian Medina, McKenna Moses, Jordyn Lexi Poindexter, Estefania Torralba, Nicole Higgins, Madison Childress and Omero Rodriguez all brought home gold medals for the Lions and Lady Lions.

OMS competes in math and science

Ozona Middle School competed in the State Texas Math and Science Coaches Association competition on April 5 at UTSA in San Antonio. Overall Ozona placed seventh out of 18 1A schools. Number Sense: Sixth Grade - Manuel Torralba, seventh place; Desiree Gruben, 16th; Humberto Torralba, 17th. They got 14th place team with only three members (team score is usually top 4 scores for a school).
