James Buryl Ruthardt

James Buryl Ruthardt was born June 22, 1933 in Lamar County, Texas. He and his twin sister, Minnie Muryl (Tince) were the youngest of nine children born to James Blain Ruthardt and Minnie Mc-Daniel Ruthardt.

When Buryl was nine, the family packed up the wagon and moved to the plains of West Texas to farm. Buryl did not enjoy farming. When he was old enough to leave home he got a job as an apprentice electrician, learning the trade and eventually becoming a Master Electrician.

Buryl met Zella Ray Hudson in 1952 in Levelland, Texas and they married in January 1953. Together they had five children, Twila Evon, Rodney Mack, Lori Raydon, Tina Latrice and Tonya Delyn. In January 1969 Buryl bought Ozona Electric and moved his family to Ozona.

Buryl was a member of the Lions Club in Ozona. He also was very involved in the Little League, sponsoring a team for many years. He and Zella also ran the concession stand for Little League for many years.

Melissa Childress Smith Elliott

Early in the morning of October 28, 2019, while surrounded by her family, Melissa Childress Smith Elliott died peaceably in La Jolla California Oct 28th 2019 surrounded by her family.

She was the granddaughter of Pleas L. Childress Senior and Nell Henderson Childress of Ozona.

She was born in Kansas City, Missouri January 17, 1940, to Ethel and J. Neil Smith. She graduated from the Barstow School and went on to attend Hollins College in Virginia where she met her husband, Max Elliott, on a blind date.

OBIT: Annamarie Castillo Fierro

On Tuesday, December 10, 2019 Annamarie Castillo Fierro, loving daughter and mother of two, passed away at the age of 39.
Annamarie was born on December 16, 1979 in San Angelo, TX to Thomas and Rosa Fierro. She graduated class of 1998 from Ozona High School. She raised two daughters, Rosamaria and Joey Ann with former husband Joey R. Arredondo.
Annamarie had a passion for the outdoors. She loved going to the river, spending time with her family and having cookouts. She will be remembered as a loving mother, a good sister and a great friend.
Anna was preceded in death by her mother, Rosa. She is survived by her two daughters Rosamaria and Joey Ann, her father Thomas, her sisters Michele, Victoria, Christina and several cousins and nieces.
Funeral services are pending.

Daniel Jack Brewer Jr.

Daniel Jack Brewer Jr.

Daniel Jack Brewer, Jr. (Jack) was born on June 15, 1930 to Daniel Jack Brewer and Pearl (Crowder) Brewer.

The family included two sisters, Sandra Simon and Joe Lou Chapman. Jack grew up in west Texas, including Ozona, Del Rio, San Angelo and Brownwood.

He married Mary Katherine Flowers, and they lived on her family ranch near Ozona.

He joined the Army as a young man and went to Germany to help with the rebuilding efforts after World War II. He grew up helping his father as a builder, and he learned rock work and masonry from his father.

He continued as a builder, helping build many of the homes, schools and churches in and around Ozona. He loved his work, and he was very fond of his construction crews.

He was a long-time member of the Ozona First Baptist Church, VFW, and the Masonic Lodge. Later in life, he married Alice Hoy Couch, and they lived in Ozona and Brownwood.

John Doyle Shaw

John Doyle Shaw of Barnhart passed away on November 28, 2019. Graveside services were held at Cypress Creek Cemetery, Leakey, Texas, on Saturday, November

30. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 2 p.m. at the Barnhart Community Center.

Doyle was born August 22, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas. Doyle grew up living in various locations while his father served in the military.

He married Frances Hanson on January 28, 1962, in Uvalde, Texas. They met through Frances’ mother, Oddie Lee, who always said that if she was younger, he would have been the man for her. But, given her age, she was happy to welcome him as her son-in-law.

Doyle enjoyed fishing, panning for gold, his grandchildren and great-granddaughters, and his family and friends. Recently, he was delighted to present a few sermons at his church while they were waiting for a new minister. His church family was very important to him.

Jacob William Scott

Jacob William Scott, 30, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at St. David’s Hospital in Austin, Texas after complications from a brain stem stroke.

Jake was born on May 29, 1989 to Darryl and Rita Simmons Scott in San Angelo. He was raised in Fort Stockton, Texas.

Jake married his best friend and love of his life, Park Preddy Scott, on December 17, 2011. Their daughter, Piper Mae, was born September 26, 2012. Jake shared a very special bond with his Piper Mae.

Jake was a talented artist, having his work displayed at San Angelo’s Art in Uncommon Places Pop Art Exhibit. He also used this talent in his career as a hair stylist at ARock Salon.

Jake enjoyed the company of his many friends, loving family, and many pets he and Piper shared through the years.

Jake was a member of the Church of Christ.

Stella V. Fierro

Stella V. Fierro, 60, passed away November 7, 2019 at Centennial Hills Hospital in Las Vegas, Nev.

She was born April 22, 1959 in Stanton, Texas.

Stella worked as a domestic engineer for many years and then became a food service manager for over 25 years for Dairy Queen.

Stella was a devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Chruch all of her life. She was a member of Cursillistas, Guadalupanas and the choir.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Juan Aranda Fierro Sr. and Josephine Vela Fierro, brother, Fred Vela Fierro and sister, Sharon Fierro.

Jonny Glen Jones Johnson

Jonny Glen Jones Johnson, 92, of Ozona, Texas went to be with her Lord and Saviour on November 14, 2019 with her family by her side.

Jonny was born to John Wesley and Maggie Jones in Chillicothe, Texas on October 26, 1927.

Jonny inspired many with her positive and cheerful outlook on life. On May 21, 1951 she married the love of her life, Calvin and they had three children.

Jonny was by nature a creative person, bringing her special touch to everything from painting and drawing to cooking meals for her family and friends. As a renowned artist in West Texas, she has art in 23 states and four countries. She was best known for her contagious smile and bringing to life the stories she told. As a woman of God, she always stood true to her faith. Jonny was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.
