Chimney fire

OZONA FIREFIGHTERS responded to a chimney fire at 902 6th St. on Feb. 11. The fire was quickly put under control, no one was injured. The house is owned by Lisa and Scott Harmsen.

Commissioners reinstate burn ban

Crockett County Commissioners reinstated a countywide burn ban during Monday’s regular meeting. The last time a burn ban was in effect was July 2013. The Ozona Volunteer Fire Department has responded to several, small grass fires in January and first part of February.

Animal Control facility bid approved

A bid has been accepted for a new Animal Control Building. During a Jan. 30 special meeting, the Crockett County Commissioners’ Court accepted a bid of $255,000 from Lopez Construction. The county has $173,876 from the 2013 budget for the project. The commissioners also approved a budget amendment of $100,000 from the county emergency fund to cover the rest of the amount.

Midland woman killed in weekend accident had Ozona ties

The daughter of a former Ozona family was killed in a twovehicle crash over the  weekend in Ector County. Brittney Granger, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, and was transported to the morgue at
Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Solar Plant planned for West Texas

It’s not always sunny in West Texas, but when it is, it can be scorching. An Arizona-based company is looking to tap those intense  rays in the windy, oil-rich region as it plans a new solar power plant expected to rank 
among the biggest in Texas. The firm, First Solar, will build and operate a 22-megawatt solar plant west of Fort Stockton in Pecos County, it announced Wednesday morning. First Solar will break ground on the Barilla
Solar Project this week, the company said, with the plant expected to go online as early as June.

Republican, Democrat primary elections set for March 4

When Crockett County voters cast their ballots in the March 4 Primary Election, they will not only have to choose which candidates but which party as well. For the Primary Election voters will have to decide whether to vote in
the Democrat or the Republican primary.
