Ozona High School Teacher Dottie De Leon has been named the Secondary Teacher of the Year by the Concho Valley Teachers of English. De Leon was honored at the Aug. 27 CCCCSD School Board meeting. The award is for demonstration of excellence as an educational professional by creating an environment that improves students' academic opportunities, workforce preparedness and overall quality of life

A new school year begins

It was an upbeat and smooth start to the school year Monday for Ozona students, teachers and staff. Enrollment for the district was 850 on the first day. This is an increase of 29 students from this time last year. Ozona Elementary had 470 students, which is 38 students more than last year. Breakdown by grade: EE 2; Pre- K 59; Kindergarten 61; First  Grade 81; Second 66; Third 74; Fourth 58 and Fifth 69.

Voters to decided $3 million school bond in November

A $3 million school bond will be on the ballot this November. The bond will be to purchase new school buses, upgrade and renovate computer and science labs, purchase new air conditioning and heating units, update teacher housing, fix roof leaks at Ozona Middle School, resurface the track at Lion Stadium and upgrade tennis courts.

One contested CCCCSD board race

Filing for the November 2014 CCCCSD School Board election ended Monday with one contested race. Incumbent Ray Don Myers, who represents Single Member District 4, will face Ryan Bean in Nov. 4 election.

Filing for the November 2014 CCCCSD School Board election is currently underway. There are three single member district seats up this year. Those seats include: SMD 4 currently held by Ray Don Myers; SMD 5 currently held

Truck fire quickly extinguished

County employees ask for pay raise

County employees talked  to the commissioners Monday night about a pay raise for 2015. During their called budget workshop, the commissioners heard from several county employees about the need of a pay raise in the
2015 budget. “The county road department is still under paid,” said Ninfa Preddy. “We are in dire need for a good raise  for our employees. We really would appreciate you all taking this into consideration.”
