It’s time for the winter dance at Ozona Middle School. During a lunch period a group of students crowd around a table discussing decorations, music, food and all other items needed for the upcoming event. They are not the student council, although some of them may be on that.

ASU releases Big Lake Disincorporation Study

Reagan County Judge Larry Isom has received Angelo State University’s disincorporation study for the city of Big Lake. The document, which totals 21 pages, is in the form of a template. “This template is an objective analysis of the facts,” ASU’s Jack Barbour, Ph.D. said. “People across  the state can use it as a toolwhen thinking about disincorporation.”

School board approves band trip

The OHS Band is heading to Branson, Mo. this summer. At the Jan. 15 regular meeting, the CCCCSD School Board unanimously approved the proposed trip and itinerary. The band will travel to  Branson June 2-6. OHS Band
Director Chans Mollendorf said the trip will include tons of performances for the band. “I don’t like to do trips  unless there’s an educational value in it. We will be opening acts for all the headliners,” Mollendorf said.

Rehab center's annual telethon raises its second-highest total

ABILENE — The West Texas Rehabilitation Center 2014 telethon Saturday raised a little more than $1.28 million, its second- highest amount in the event’s 44 years. The final tally of $1,280,765 is up slightly from last year’s total of $1,202,646. Dan Huggins, the center’s director of donor relations, said the 2012 campaign remains the record, with just over $1.33 million raised.

Commissioners rebid animal control building

After a lengthy discussion, the commissioners approved to advertise to rebid the animal control building without outside kennels during Monday’s regular meeting. The bids will be open at a noon special meeting on Jan.
30 at the courthouse annex. At the Dec. 19 meeting, the commissioners rejected the bids they have received because they came in over the $210,000 budgetedamount

Pfeifer honored by OLPH Church

At a special mass in his honor, Bishop Michael D. Pfeifer told the children of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church that there was another day just as important as their birthday. Speaking on the importance of baptism, Pfeifer told the children to ask their parents when they were baptized and then they could have another party.

West Texas Rehab Telethon Saturday

West Texas Rehab Center is gearing up for its 44th annual Telethon. The event is set to take place Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Abilene Civic Center. Locally, members of Ozona Woman’s League will be manning the phones starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Crockett National Bank. The annual telethon  raises more than $1 million to help make it possible for the West Texas Rehab Center to serve more than 500 patients each day regardless of
their financial circumstance

OLPH Church hosting special mass for Pfeifer

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church will hold a special mass at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, for  Bishop Michael D. Pfeifer. Pfeifer is retiring as bishop of the San Angelo Diocese, which includes Ozona. The mass will be followed by a lunch. Everyone  is welcome to attend. The San Angelo Diocese announced last week released dates, times and locations for the upcoming Mass of Thanksgiving for Pfeifer, and the Ordination/ Installation Mass,
and Vespers for Bishopelect Michael J. Sis, who  as appointed sixth Bishop of San Angelo on Dec.  12, 2013

Henneke makes campaign stop in Ozona
