Lady Lions take district title

With a 14-6 victory Friday night over McCamey, the OHS Lady Lions Softball Team clinched the district championship.

“This team is a special bunch. They’ve learned to play hard with and for each other, and that’s what won this game. I say it week in and week out...I’m so proud of this bunch. They are special and we are going to continue to work hard to see how far this thing goes,” said Coach Joe Moore.

The Lady Lions will finish the regular season on April 18 against Marfa. Game time is 5:30 pm in Marfa.

OMS STAAR Testing Schedule this week

Dear Parents, just a reminder that the 7th Grade writing STAAR and 8th Grade math STAAR is Tuesday. 8th Grade reading STAAR is Wednesday.

Students report to the cafeteria for 1st period. (No athletics)

6th Grade will have normal lunch time (11:35)
7th & 8th Grade lunch is at 12:00.

Please make sure your child gets a good night’s rest the night before and has a healthy breakfast that morning.

Lady Lions sweep Marfa in double header

Lady Lions sweep a big double header vs Marfa 14-8 and 11-6 respectfully.

It was a total team effort in both games. Good defense, great pitching, and timely hits helped the Lady Lions pull away.

“I’m so incredibly proud of this bunch of kids...they played their tails off,” said Coach Joe Moore.

OBIT: Iva Pauline Bentley

Iva Pauline Bentley was born in Baird, Texas on May 22, 1945. She passed away on April 2, 2019. Pauline was a native of Ozona and graduated from high school here in 1963. She played basketball, was on the annual staff, played trumpet in the band. She was on the soil conservation team. Her class as freshman were the first girls that got to wear jeans to school.

 

After high school she graduated from the university in El Paso with a degree in physical education. She was a member of ZTA society. She taught PE in Uvalde and went to Center Point where she was the head girls basketball and track coach. She worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance where she taught anatomy.

UPDATE: 3-PETE! Lions make it three in a row with District 7-2A Championship!

CHRISTOVAL – The OHS Varsity Lions Track Team won their third consecutive district championship Thursday night at the District 7-2A Meet.

The Lions were headed into Thursday’s final running events in fourth place, 42 points behind first place Winters. Miles was in second and Eldorado was in third.

On Thursday, the Lions made a comeback by scoring 108 points to finish in first, ahead of Winters who finished with 123 points.

“A comeback despite headwinds and an obstacle course placed in the kids’ path. A testimony to heart,” said Coach Kyle Freeman.
