ELECTION WRAP-UP: Hurd retains small edge in CD-23 race

Article Image Alt Text

UPDATED at 11:01 a.m.

The race in Congressional District 23 came down to the last precinct — and election workers there misreported their vote tally, officials said.

That error gave Democratic challenger Gina Ortiz Jones a 282-vote lead around 2:30 a.m. — causing the Associated Press to rescind its call that the race had gone to Republican Will Hurd.

Lions swept up by Blizzards: 24-13 loss

Article Image Alt Text

LION STADIUM - Plaqued by penalites and the speed of the Blizzards, the Ozona Lions fell to Winters 24-13 Friday night.

On Senior Night, the Lions were unable to capitalize on some offensive plays, including penalities on what would have been potential scoring runs.

Zachary Talamantez and Abraham Rodriguez both scored for the Lions.

Ozona (2-6, 1-2) will face Hawley (8-1, 3-0) next week for the final regular season game.

The Lions are currently setting in fourth place in District 3-2A. The top four teams in each district advance to the playoffs.

Kickoff will be 7:30 p.m. Friday in Hawley.
