Bingo Social Tuesday

BY BRENDA NEWTON

Happy Valentine's Day! Here's wishing you all health, wealth and happiness on this day.

I'm sending Melissa a great big thank you for taking care of me last week. I crashed and burned for five days and did not get my article to her on Monday. It is amazing how quickly this flu, or whatever it is, can hit you and put you down. I am over it now, thank the Good Lord. I do hope none of you come down with it. If you do, I wish you a quick recovery.

Our February Bingo Social will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20. We will be serving chicken salad on croissants, chips, lettuce and tomatoes, jalapenos and ice cream sandwiches.

By  Diane Womack

Each year, the Crockett County Soil & Water Conservation District sponsors a conservation poster contest.

We team up with Ozona Bank and they are so great to support us by donating the prize money for the winners. The poster contest is one of the methods we use to teach the next generation, in a fun way, the importance of taking care of our natural resources. The theme this year was

“Healthy Soils Are Full of Life.” This year, all the kids did an amazing job, which made it difficult for the directors to pick only three. As a matter of fact, for the first time ever, there was also an Honorable Mention awarded.

The Way Off Broadway Players present 'Smoke on the Mountain'

The gospel-singing Sanders Family is on the road again. There’s a rite of passage at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where Reverend Mervin Oglethorpe is trying to bring this tiny congregation into the “modern world”.

Opening night jitters combined with the disdain of a pair of spinsters, the church’s chief benefactors, keep the evening on the verge of chaos.
