OZONA HIGH SCHOOL NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTION CEREMONY was held Thursday at the OHS Auditorium. New members inducted were: Riley Williams, Esperanza Ramirez, Manuel Torralba, Humberto Torralba, Citlali Cano, Lazaro Rodriguez, Tyler Webb, Kayla Sarabia, Kendra Sarabia, Braeden Gutierrez, Sebastian De La Cruz, Roslynn Mendez, Holly Munsell, Alec Lara, Jacob Childress, Wendy Mata, Rebecca Flores, Kenzee Talamantez, Lexi Montgomery and Carlie Ramos. Junior members are: Chantz Elliott, Ivana Hernandez, Josh Knaack, David Landin, Isaura Lopez, Coulter McWilliams, Juan Rangel and Caleb Webb. Senior members are: Josae Coy, Roman Esparza, Steban Flores, Makenna Fox, Kassidy Gonzalez, Brenna Hale, Larissa Hernandez, Brandon Jara, Danny Posadas, Denise Rodriguez, Kaelan Savala, Hunter Smith, Samantha Torralba, Autumn Villarreal and Christian Yruegas.

Upham Ranch Breeding Sheep Champions at Houston Livestock Show

Upham Ranch traveled to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this past week competing in the Junior Open Show and the Open Show. Morgan Upham exhibited Upham Ranch livestock in the Jr. Show placing Champion Dorper Ewe, Reserve Champion Ram and first place pair of rams. In the Open Breeding Stock show, Morgan and Randy Upham placed Supreme Champion All Breeds Ewe (bred by Sharon Holman) Champion Dorper Ram (bred by Upham Ranch) and First Place yearling Ram (bred by Norman & Kathy Kohls). OZONA MIDDLE SCHOOL

Was honored as the 2018 Volunteer of the Year by the Reel Thanx program for all their effort in supporting the program that provides trips for Wounded Warriors. Another group of Wounded Warriors stopped on Friday on their way to Del Rio for a fishing trip. OMS provided lunch served by members of the National Junior Honor Society. OMS Students welcomed the group.

Special guided tour Sunday

Looking for something fun for the entire family? Visit Fort Lancaster State Historic Site on Sunday, March 18, for a special guided tour of the historic fort ruins followed by a hands-on history display with period weapons, uniforms, and soldier equipment. 

“The special tour will allow visitors to imagine what it must have been like to live and work at Fort Lancaster during the mid-1800s” said Jefferson Spilman, Fort Lancaster Site Manager.

Gutierrez named to Dean's Honor Roll

Bryce Gutierrez has been named to the "Dean's Honor Roll" at the Texas A&M University College of Engineering for the 2017 Fall Semester.

This designation is reserved only for students who have achieved a GPA of 3.75 for better, and is particularly noteworthy considering the rigorous and demanding nature of the engineering curriculum.

Special March 13 Commissioners' Court meeting with TxDOT to address relocation of I-10 frontage road

The public is invited to attend a special session of the Crockett County Commissioner’s Court on Tuesday, March 13, starting at 5:30 p.m. Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) representatives will present information and accept public suggestions on the proposed relocation of the east bound Interstate-10 exit ramp 365 and the extension of the south frontage road from just west of Rio Grande Street to State Highway 163 in Ozona. A formal presentation will begin at 6 p.m.

TxDOT proposes the following:

• Extension of the east bound I-10 frontage road and relocation of exit 365 to a point west of Johnson Draw to allow for more deceleration time between I-10 eastbound and State Highway 163.

Museum needs items for 'Ladies Tea' exhibit

The Crockett County Museum is working on a "Ladies Tea" exhibit that will be on display till October 2018.

'2018 Texas Economic Outlook: Hitting on all Cylinders' event March 8 in San Angelo

Angelo State University Small Business Development Center is inviting the business and civic communities to the upcoming event “2018 Texas Economic Outlook: Hitting on all Cylinders” on Thursday, March 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the LeGrand Alumni and Visitors Center, 1620 University Avenue in San Angelo.

This event will feature guest speaker Dr. Keith Phillips, who serves as the Assistant Vice President of the San Antonio Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. His areas of concentration include regional economics and economic forecasting. Research Papers in Economics, which tracks publications in economics, ranks Phillips in the top five percent of economists across the world in terms of the number of distinct publications.

Business of the Month: Travelodge

The Ozona Chamber of Commerce recognizes the Travelodge as our Business of the Month. The Travelodge, a “family motel” is owned by Ganga and Prem Dharam, originally from the Fiji Islands, and now live in Midland, Texas. “We are really thankful to everyone in Ozona for their continued support.

We are very proud to be receiving local referrals which mean that we have gained support from the town. We would like to thank all of our guests and everyone in Ozona who have shown us their support," said owner Ganga Dharam. “We would also like to thank the Methodist church, the Ozona Sheriff and Fire Departments and the Chamber of Commerce for their continued support and cooperation.”
