The hope of the gospel

Article Image Alt Text

As a third generation fundamentalist Christian, I have come to the conclusion that in me, that is in my flesh, dwells no good thing. And I will tell you why. For many years I tried really hard to follow all the religious rules. And I did this because they taught me that it is good to be good. I agree – it is good to be good. But what happens when you realize that you cannot be as good as they say you ought to be? What are you supposed to do when you try really hard to follow all the religious rules and still fail at being good?

Wildlife Conservationist of the Year Awarded

Article Image Alt Text

By BY DIANE WOMACK CROCKETT COUNTY SWCD

Crockett County Soil and Water Conservation District is pleased to announce Ward Walker 7-Oaks Ranch as Wildlife Conservationist of the Year.

The award was presented at the Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet held on April 5. Wayne Walker accepted the award from Jack Baggett, director of the Crockett County SWCD. The ranch, located south of Ozona, is owned by Kelly Walker. His three sons, Philip, Wayne and Caton are the fifth generation.

The 7-Oaks derives its name from a large stand of oaks outside the ranch house. Though Kelly and his sons lived in Tyler, the boys spent summers and holidays at the ranch with their grandparents Jack and Ellen Ward. During many years spent listening to their grandparents, they learned much of the history and problems that the family faced.
