OMS Cheer Camp

The 2018 oMS Cheerleaders attended their first day of camp at the OMS Gym Monday. The camp runs through today, Aug. 1. The girls learned cheers and dances to get ready for the upcoming season.

Childress brothers compete at Texas 4-H Shooting Sports State Games

CROCKETT COUNTY 4-H SHOOTING

The 2018 Texas 4-H Shooting Sports State Games was held last week in San Antonio, from July 17-21. West Texas as a whole isn’t a big percentage of the 900 Shotgun shooters and Archery participants. We are, however, known for taking our shooting seriously.

In the shotgun events, Ozona locals Carson Childress and Grant Childress had some wins.

Carsons celebrate 50th anniversary

Cathy and Bill Carson celebrated their Golden anniversary on June 8, 2018, with a dinner and dance in San Antonio, Texas. Family and friends attended the event at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort.

Catherine Miller and William J. Carson, Jr. were married on June 8, 1968, in Ozona, Texas, at the First Methodist Church. Cathy is the daughter of the late LaVaun and Henry Miller. Bill is the son of Norma Carson and the late William J. Carson, Sr.

ASU planning Ozona ‘War Stories’ History Harvest

The Department of History at Angelo State University is planning a History Harvest event in Ozona sometime this fall for the grant-funded project, “War Stories: West Texans from World War I to the Present.”

The “War Stories” project is an effort to collect and preserve the stories and experiences of current and former armed forces personnel and their families who have a past or present West Texas connection.

It is supported by a threeyear grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Mr. and Mrs. Darren Wayne Meadows

Jennifer Elizabeth Davidson, of Santa Fe, N.M., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Davidson IV, and Darren Wayne Meadows, of Los Alamos, N.M., son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Meadows, were married on May 19, 2018. The ceremony was held in Santa Fe with Pastor Martin Ban officiating. Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attended by her lifelong friend, Julie (Childress) Harrison, as her matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Kayla Davidson, sister-in-law of the bride, Keadron Friar, and Aimee Hunter.

The bride’s nieces, Mia and Avery Davidson, served as junior bridesmaids. The best man was the groom’s brother, Kevin Meadows. Groomsmen were Denny Newell and the groom’s two sons, Hayden and Cameron Meadows

The hope of the gospel

As a third generation fundamentalist Christian, I have come to the conclusion that in me, that is in my flesh, dwells no good thing. And I will tell you why. For many years I tried really hard to follow all the religious rules. And I did this because they taught me that it is good to be good. I agree – it is good to be good. But what happens when you realize that you cannot be as good as they say you ought to be? What are you supposed to do when you try really hard to follow all the religious rules and still fail at being good?
