Davidson-Meadows to wed in May

Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Davidson IV of Ozona are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Elizabeth, to Darren Wayne Meadows, son of Wayne R. Meadows of White Rock, New Mexico. Jennifer is a photographer in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Darren is a professional engineer in Los Alamos, New Mexico. A May wedding is planned.

Food Challenge Teams place in San Angelo

THE CROCKETT COUNTY 4-H FOOD CHALLENGE TEAMS competed at the San Angelo Food Challenge on Jan. 24. The Third Grade Cooks won the Junior Fruit and Vegetables category. The Diva Delights placed fourth in Intermediate Main Dish. The Crockett County Cooks competed in Intermediate Fruit and Vegetables. The Food Challenge Teams were coached by Dana Criswell.

Annual Sixth Grade Conservation Poster Contest

Each year, the Crockett County Soil & Water Conservation District sponsors a conservation poster contest.

We team up with Ozona Bank and they are so great to support us by donating the prize money for the winners. The poster contest is one of the methods we use to teach the next generation, in a fun way, the importance of taking care of our natural resources. The theme this year was

“Healthy Soils Are Full of Life.” This year, all the kids did an amazing job, which made it difficult for the directors to pick only three. As a matter of fact, for the first time ever, there was also an Honorable Mention awarded.

Permian Basin Square Dancers hosting 'Winterfest' Saturday in Ozona

Permian Basin Square and Round Dance Association will host a Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dancers dance, "Winterfest, More Than Just Another Festival."

Located at the Crockett County Senior Center, 2 State Highway 163 North, Ozona, from 2–4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27.

The Way Off Broadway Players present 'Smoke on the Mountain'

The gospel-singing Sanders Family is on the road again. There’s a rite of passage at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where Reverend Mervin Oglethorpe is trying to bring this tiny congregation into the “modern world”.

Opening night jitters combined with the disdain of a pair of spinsters, the church’s chief benefactors, keep the evening on the verge of chaos.

SWTEC sponsoring Washington DC trip essay contest

Southwest Texas Electric Cooperative will be sponsoring an essay contest to send two winners for a week long expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. this summer. They will join 125 plus other students from across Texas for the June 6-June 15 adventure. In order to qualify for the trip, contestants must write an essay on the topic “What makes electric cooperative different from investor owned utilities?” The essay is not to exceed 500 words. The contest is open to sophomore, juniors and seniors. Additional rules will be supplied with the application.

Youth Tour participates will enjoy the best of Washington, D.C., touring the Smithsonian Institute, Mount Vernon, the Vietnam Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, Ford's Theater, the FBI building, the White House, the Supreme Court and many other famous sites. They will also be visiting their Congressman's office, House of Representatives and the Senate.

English to sign books Tuesday at library

Former Ozona resident Ben H. English will be featured at a book signing from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the Crockett County Public Library.

English will sign copies of his book "Yonderings: Trails and Memories of the Big Bend."
