Leadership: bridging the partisan gap

In any organization, new leadership means change. Good leadership requires setting goals and prioritizing a specific  mission. Each day, our Armed Services provide an excellent example of goal setting and prioritizing specific mission. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the U.S. House of Representatives

The facts about Crockett County Animal Control

Some people have expressed gratitude for the work Animal Control has been doing in and around Ozona. Others have expressed some resentment and confusion. Since the sheriff had to be out of town on deadline day,
Joe and I thought we would submit an article on the Animal Control department

Ten Things To Love About Cows

Consumers don't make the connection between cows and all the great things they provide. Here's my top ten list of the things I love most about cows. #1 Hamburgers: Ever since burgers were first introduced at the St. Louis  World's  Fair in 1904 Americans have had a hamburger habit. Sixty percent of the beef consumed in this country is in the form of ground beef, and rightfully so. Put a  burger between two buns, add some lettuce, tomato, a slice of cheese and you have the perfect meal! Ground beef is also a major ingredient of my all-time favorite form of sustenance: Mexican food.

No One Died Today

He is an Indian Doctor; Indian as in the country, not as in Cherokee, Crow or Choctaw. Although he’d much prefer that you call him an “American Doctor” because he was born in this country and has never owed his allegiance to anywhere else on earth but the good old USA. He’d be the first to tell you, there’s no better place

Ice bucket challenge, a genius idea

This weekend I added my name to very long list of people who have taken the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  For me, it was a nobrainer when two of my friends challenged me. Millions of people, including celebrities, politicians
and people in your hometown have participated in this event

Cat’s Rights

There seems to be organizations looking out for the civil rights of every thing and everybody these days. Gays, bisexuals, old folks, black folks, toddlers, dogs, horses, priests, prisoners, fat people, skinny people, tall people, short people, Muppies (mature urban professionals) and Puppies (pregnant urban professionals) all have their own guardians. Yet, to the best of my knowledge, no group is looking out for cats.

Juvenile curfew not 'tool' for harrassment

This morning the sheriff and I were discussing the new juvenile curfew that was approved by the commissioners' court. Judge Lozano and Juvenile Probation Officer Jerry Jimenez presented the proposal to the court and stated the current curfew, that was adopted in 2010, was not working.

Chasing the American Dream

Hello, my name is Chris Cantu, and I have no idea how drastically my life is about to change. Initially I dreaded the idea of moving to Ozona, but that's what makes this story so exciting. See, I like to live my life in moments akin to those on the silver screen.

Congress put veterans first with new medical care act

During August, I’ll visit constituents throughout the vast 23rd District of Texas. August is the time that Congress escapes the heat and humidity of Washington for the quiet and comfort of home. However, I'm not happy that
Congress is taking the month of August off. It should stay in town and finish its work.

It's imperative to follow the law with drug offenders

The sheriff and I have been talking about our local drug problems and some of the problems he has encountered trying to eliminate some of those problems. Sheriff Rodriguez says he has citizens ask him why he has not taken action on a local known drug offender that this citizen knows or that may be one of his neighbors.
