Commissioners' table treasurer decision, interview another candidate

The Crockett County Commissioners’ Court still hasn’t decided on a new county treasurer.

During a special meeting Thursday (May 10) night, the commissioners interviewed one more candidate.

County Judge Fred Deaton said two people turned in applications that day (May 10). He said both were qualified but turned in their applications after the deadline. The two applicants were Roylan Sullivan and Laura Conner.

Deaton told the new applicants that it was up to the commissioners if they wanted to consider their applications.

Annex building reopens after health scare

The Crockett County Courthouse Annex is reopened.

At noon Tuesday, County Judge Fred Deaton spoke with Texas Department of Health Officials in El Paso and San Angelo who stated that the building was safe and that there was no infectious connection between anybody that has been ill at the courthouse annex.

Deaton also said that the health officials told him that the medical cases of Justice of the Peace Evelyn Kerbow and the late Crockett County Treasurer Karen Webb were different and not related.

Courthouse annex closed due to health reasons

UPDATE 8:47 p.m. Monday: Family members from Judge Kerbow have said that her illness is possibly an allergic reaction to some medication and not the same illness that caused Crockett County Treasurer Karen Webb's death. County Judge Fred Deaton said more information will be released from the state health officials Tuesday morning.

Sale of CCCCSD School Bonds delayed due to lack of commissioners

The approval of the sale of the $5 million CCCCSD School Bond was postponed due to the lack of commissioners.

At Monday's regular meeting, Vince Viaille, managing director of Specialized Public Finance Inc., told the commissioners that four members of commissioners’ court were needed to approve the sale. Commissioners Eligio Martinez and Wesley Bean were absent from the meeting. County Judge Fred Deaton and Commissioners Pleas Childress and Frank Tambunga were in attendance.

UIL Realignment: Lions heading north

The Ozona Lions will be heading north next season.

The University Interscholastic League announced the 2018-19 and 2019-20 football and basketball district realignment Thursday morning.

In football, Ozona was placed in Conference 2A Division 1 Region 1 District 3-2A with Forsan, Hawley, Stamford and Winters.

This is a dramatic change to the Lions’ district from the past two seasons, which included Christoval, McCamey, Eldorado and Anthony. Ozona finished 6-5 overall this past season and 3-1 in district play.

CCCCSD 10 a.m. start Tuesday due to icy weather

BREAKING: CCCSD will have a 10 a.m. start for Tuesday, Jan. 16, due to the possibility of icy weather in the morning. Buses will run tomorrow.
The Ozona Community Center will open at 9:45 a.m.
Ozona Head Start and Crockett County Public Library will open at 10 a.m.
The Ozona Stockman Office will open at 10:30 a.m.

CCCCSD RELEASING FRIDAY DUE TO FLU

After consulting with CCCCSD Board Members and Dr. Sims, it has been decided to release the following statement.

Due to the high number of influenza cases experienced within the schools, CCCCSD will dismiss school for the holidays on Friday December 15, at 2:00 pm. In order to make up for the missed day, classes will resume for teachers and students on Tuesday January 2, 2018 at the normal time. January 2 was originally a Teacher Workday/Student Holiday, but now it will be a regular school day.
