School district scales back on bond amount, commissioners approve order for November election

After three joint meetings, the Crockett County Commissioners’ Court approved Monday calling for a $33.8 million bond election for the Crockett County Consolidated Common School District.

The bond election will be held Nov. 5.

The Crockett County Commissioners’ Court approved to keep the Family Health Center of Ozona running as is, with 24-hour, 7 days a week care, during a special meeting Thursday night.

The commissioners accepted the recommendation of the Crockett County Care Center, Health and Emergency Services Board.

The commissioners also approved to be open to negotiations with Shannon Medical Center.

By approving this option, the county will increase the clinic payment from $500,000 to $1.2 million.

BREAKING: U.S. Rep. Will Hurd will not seek re-election

WASHINGTON — The U.S. House's last black Republican member, Rep. Will Hurd of Helotes, announced Thursday that he is retiring from Congress. President Donald Trump's racist comments about elected officials weighed heavily on Hurd, who has often spoken out against the rhetoric.

In announcing his resignation on Twitter, he alluded to future plans, but provided no specifics.

"I have made the decision to not seek reelection for the 23rd Congressional District of Texas in order to pursue opportunities outside the halls of Congress to solve problems at the nexus between technology and national security," he wrote.

Car chase involving stolen Crockett County Sheriff's vehicle ends in tragedy

A car chase involving a stolen Crockett County Sheriff’s Deputy vehicle ended in tragedy Wednesday.

The vehicle was stolen from the Lowe’s Grocery Store parking lot, around 10 a.m., by a woman who led local and area law enforcement on a chase until Reagan County Deputies intercepted the vehicle off a State Highway 137 going toward Big Lake on the Baggett Ranch.

The woman shot herself and was pronounced dead at the scene by Crockett County Justice of the Peace Evelyn Kerbow. Her body was sent to the Lubbock Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. Preliminary autopsy report states that the cause of death was suicide.

Severe storm has rapidly developed over San Saba County, with more storms developing back towards Ozona. Areas from San Saba, Brady, Mason and Junction back west to Menard, Eldorado, Sonora, and Ozona should see rapid storm development through 7 PM.
