Commissioners Court discusses block grant
Ozona—The Crockett County Commissioners Court meeting started with a public hearing about a Community Development Block Grant Program. This grant will be directed toward the wastewater treatment plant south of Ozona.
The commissioners are required to sign off on the grant, however, the grant does not require any funds to come from Crockett County. The state is offering up to $1 million in grant funds for projects such as this one. Commissioners Bunger and Fierro motioned to approve the grant. The development’s owner was given permission to apply for this grant as well. Hibbs Todd is the appointed engineer for this project.
The court approved multiple donations including $50 from Jan Miller, $100 from Karen Bebee, and $25 from Vince Huffman to the library in memory of Marilyn Cox. They also approved a donation from White Mesa Wind LLC of $25,000 to the county’s general fund.
Judge Tambunga opened bids for work on CR 207 to redo the caliche for four miles of road. There was one bid from Childress Contracting LLC for $117,400 to remove and replace a cattle guard, haul 2,000 yards of caliche, and remove rocks around the road surface as needed.
Judge Tambunga also presented to the court the agreement of Interlocal Broadband from the Concho Valley Council of Governments (COG). The COG is in the third phase of its project and is talking to all surrounding counties to get support before meeting with internet providers to create an agreement. The court approved this.
The next Commissioners Court meeting will be held April 8 at 9 a.m.
