Betty Grimmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Grimmer, is in Dallas for an operation to repair a broken piece of bone in the knee joint. The injury was suffered last Thursday when she fell from her bicycle. Mr. and Mr. Grimmer are with her. The fracture was one of the most unusual in medical history, according to local physicians. The knuckle on one of the bones inside the knee joint was chipped off in some manner, the broken, piece lying loose in the joint. Medical books contained no record of such an unusual fracture and a bone specialist in Dallas, who will perform the operation, declared that he had never seen one similar to it.

Mrs. Harriette Sutton Schumann of Todd Field has been employed as a freshman and sophomore English teacher at Ozona High School to succeed Miss Mary Jo Vlha, who resigned, L.B.T. Sikes, superintendent, announced this week. Mrs. Schumann, whose husband R.J. Schumann, is superintendent of the Continental gasoline plant, has a master’s degree and has completed part of the work toward the Ph.D. degree at Columbia University. She taught for three years in a girl’s college in Washington, D.C. She will assume her duties in the local schools on Jan. 25.

The new speed limit sign seemed to mean more to automobile drivers than truck drivers. In a check run Monday afternoon, the photographer drove 55 mph from Ozona city limits to IS 10, and was passed by three trucks and no autos.

Ralph Pulfer became a two-time overall winner in the Texas Winter Olympics Sheep Dog Trials when his dog, Ken, took the Top Dog Award at the finish of the Crockett County Classic Trial held Jan. 14 through 16 at the Weir-Perry Kennels in Ozona. After two near-perfect runs on Friday and Saturday, Ken brought Mr. Pulfer a beautiful porcelain sculpture from Border Fine Arts in Scotland entitled “The Shed.” The Top Dog Award for the three-trial Winter Olympics was donated by West Texas Utilities. Charles and Nancy Stegall, representing the Sanderson Sheep Dog Trials and the End of the Road Trials, along with Ivan and Janet Weir and Gene and Betty Perry of the Crockett County Classic presented the award.
