Iraan—The community of Iraan celebrated its Summer Fair in the Square on July 8. The celebration was organized by the Iraan Chamber of Commerce, and many booths were sponsored by Iraan High School.

Dennis Loftin, organizer of the event, offered insight into the celebration.

“Iraan used to be a really close town, and everyone knew everyone else,” Loftin said. “I miss the days when people would wave at you walking down the street. We’re trying to bring back that nostalgic feeling that I remember.”

The event included activities for children, booths, and contests. People could compete in eating contests, and youngsters could learn about firefighting by operating a fire hose.

“We know there are a lot of local things here that need money, like the school’s cheerleaders, band, and the youth center. They’re raising money for new uniforms and things like that,” Loftin said.

The Chamber of Commerce provided a concession stand for the event.

“We really want to help make this long term, so we want more people to come out and have fun here,” Tiffani Rodriguez, social media coordinator for the chamber, said. “The whole point of the celebration is to bring our community together and to give our kids something important and worthwhile to do.

“Ultimately, this is about the kids. We want everyone to feel connected and supported.”
