Ozona History

1933
It is the order of the Commissioners Court of Crockett County that beginning January 1, 1934, users of the County Sewer System will pay monthly the following rates: for the first connection 50 cents, for each additional connection 10 cents. There is some expense in keeping the system in good order and repair, and the Court feels the patrons will not object to or resist the small monthly charge and will arrange to pay promptly each month.
1943
Crockett County’s first soldier in World War II, Grover Hignight, 28, volunteered immediately after the passage of the Selective Service and Training Act in 1940. Hignight was the first man to go into training from this county, and he was killed in action. A telegram received this morning by Hugh Gray from the War Department advised that Hignight had been “killed in action in defense of his country on Dec. 6 in Italy.” No further details were given in the War Department telegram. Hignight, whose parents are dead, worked for several years for Mr. Gray.
1973
Santa arrives in downtown Ozona on Friday. The old fellow will be brought in from the airport via fire truck Friday afternoon following the close of school. As may be seen at the right of the picture, the entire younger set turned out to line up for a chance to chat with Santa and receive a bag of Christmas candy. The turnout was large in spite of cold, windy weather.
2003
In their regular monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 15, members of the Ozona School Board approved the purchase of a 48-passenger school bus from Blue Star Bus Sales, LTD that will be used both as a route bus and an activities bus for student transportation. The purchase price for the school bus was $54,100, and a school bus bid from Thomas Bus Gulf Coast was considered by the board, before the award was made to Blue Star Bus Sales for the school transportation vehicle.
