Margaret Longoria retires from CCPL

Ozona—After 32 years of library service, Margaret Longoria is retiring from the Crockett County Public Library (CCPL).

Desiree Marshall will be the new assistant librarian beginning in January and it’s no secret to anyone that Longoria leaves some big shoes to fill. Longoria joined former CCPL director Louise Ledoux in 1988 as a circulation desk clerk. Longoria noted that “back then the library was just books” and actual card catalogs were still used. She took off a few years to work as an educational aide for Crockett County public schools but returned to the library in 2003.

Longoria has provided warmhearted service to the Ozona community and has been a great asset to library patrons who depend on her to select and recommend reading materials. Longoria is particularly gifted at matching books to readers and has been providing home book delivery for patrons who can’t easily get out and about.

At Longoria’s request, there will be no public retirement party, but the CCPL Board and the Friends of the Library honored her at a private dinner on Monday, Dec. 4. Longoria will be greatly missed at the library. She didn’t just make a career out of the last 32 years, she made a difference in her community.
