UPDATE: At 6:27 p.m. the Ozona Volunteer Fire Department reported the Coates Fire had burned 772 acres and was 100 percent contained.

 

The Texas Forest Service has stated the Coates Fire off of Crockett County Road 205 is 700 acres and 50 percent contain as of 2 p.m. Monday.

The fire started Sunday around 4 p.m. with Ozona Volunteer Fire Department responding, along with Mertzon and Barnhart Fire Departments assiting.

Crockett County Road Dept sent out their water tanker to help the Ozona Fire Dept tanker keep up with filling the brush trucks filled with water. Texas Forest Service was notified and had crews responding first thing Monday.

Ozona Volunteer Fire Department was paged out Monday afternoon to assist the Texas Forest Service with the fire.
