Lions make statement comeback in district win over Stamford

STAMFORD – The Ozona Lions were determined to come away with a victory Friday night. Coming behind from a 14-point deficit, the Lions outshined the Bulldogs, 39-28, for their first district win.

“Another good win for the team. We believe it puts us in the driver’s seat as far as district play. It’s always good to go on the road against a program like Stamford and come back with a win,” said Athletic Director and Head Coach Kyle Freeman.

The Lions struggled in the first half with the Bulldogs taking a 14-0 lead in the second quarter, with the second Stamford touchdown coming off an Ozona fumble.

The Lions would get on the board on a five yard touchdown run by Abraham Rodriguez on their next series of plays. Lane Smith’s extra-point kick was good to make it 14-7.

Stamford would score again on their next possession making their lead 22-7.
