LION STADIUM - The Ozona Lions (1-5, 0-1) tried to make a comeback in the second half Friday, but time ran out on them. The Lions began district play with a 41-16 loss to #10 State-Ranked Stamford (6-1).

Down 27-0 at the start of the second half, Junior Abraham Rodriguez got the Lions on the board with a touchdown late in the third quarter.

The Lions defense then got a safety.

Followed by Senior Marcus Perez scoring a touchdown in the fourth to bring it 33-16.

Unlike the first half, the Lions defense improved in the second half keeping the Bulldogs to only two touchdowns. Ozona also scored more points in the second half than Stamford.

Stamford's Kalib Flick suffered a game-ending injury, in the first half, as he was taken off the field on a stretcher by Crockett County EMS personnel and transported by ambulance to San Angelo with what appeared to be a broken arm or broken collarbone.

Ozona will face Forsan next week for their second district matchup. The Buffaloes (2-5) were open Friday night. In their last matchup the Buffaloes defeated Wink 25-24.

Kickoff at 7:30 p.m. at Forsan.
