CRANE - The Ozona Lions looked like they were going to give the Golden Cranes a game.

In the end, the Lions couldn't keep up with Crane's offense and their Quarterback Brandon Cerna as the game ended in a 42-14 loss.

The first half was one game. As Crane scored, Ozona immediately answered back. Both the Lions touchdowns came from Junior Running Back Abraham Rodriguez, whose second touchdown was on a 60-yard run to tie the game 14-14 in the second quarter right after a Crane score.

Crane would close out the first half ahead 21-14 and that is where they would stay the rest of the game.

After halftime, Ozona failed to get anything going on offense and the Lions defense were unable to catch Cerna and the rest of the Golden Cranes offense.

Ozona (1-4) will start district play next week facing Stamford (5-1). The Bulldogs were ranked number 9 in the state until Clyde pulled the upset 21-13 win Friday night.

Up until Clyde, Stamford had been beating its opponents 30-40 points, including a 90-62 win over DeLeon on Sept. 28 where Quarterback Peyton Bevel broke the state record for passing touchdowns with 12 during the game and passing yardage of 789.

The last two times Ozona has faced the Bulldogs have been in the first round of playoffs, where the Lions have been unsuccessful.

Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Lion Stadium.
