Sam Gonzales Vargas, of Ozona, Texas passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2018 at the age of 84. Visitation with the family will be Monday – Wednesday in Ozona at Kerbow Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Lima Cemetery. Survivors include his daughters Imelda Robledo (Armando), Melissa De La Garza (Paul), Marisa Salazar (Gonzalo) Irma Vargas (Mark) and like his own daughter, that he loved very much, Hilda Martinez (John Fierro); his sons Santiago Vargas, Larry Martinez (Mary) and Ray Vargas; his brother, Pedro Vargas Jr. (Phyllis), and Pancho Vargas (Manuela); his sisters, Rafela Perez, Alma Longoria (Gabriel Sr.) Mickey Arredondo (Raul) and Alda De Hoyos (Thomas). Samuel Vargas was preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Romanita Vargas, his wife, Maria De Hoyos Vargas, his son, Sammy Vargas Jr. and his twin granddaughters, Allissa and Annissa Robledo. Samuel was a very loving and caring person; anyone that needed help in Ozona he was there to assist. Sam worked at a very young age. Always bringing gifts to his younger sisters. He married Maria De Hoyos and together they had six children. He would be the man of the house, he never allowed his wife  o work. He played baseball (pitcher) with the Red Birds and Los Indios. He was a cowboy in his younger years and worked in many ranches in Ozona. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Los Cursillistas. He was always willing to help with fund raisers, benefits, etc. . . He was also a member of the Lions Club. He worked at the Ozona Fina Station for many years and then worked for Lilly Construction until he retired. The Vargas family would like to thank Dr. Coates, Interim Hospice, especially Ronnie Fierro, Jana, Aunt Alda and Channa De Hoyos and everyone who stopped by to visit dad. Heaven has truly gained an angel. Online condolences can be made at kerbowfuneralhome.com.
