Robert ‘Pete’ Montgomery

It is with broken hearts that the family of Robert (Pete) Montgomery faces the loss of their beloved husband, dad, granddaddy, and brother. Pete left in the the early morning of May 8, 2018 from Ozona, Texas. He was the son of Carl and Maudie Montgomery and was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 30, 1945. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Ceder Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Kerbow Funeral Home. His family moved to Oklahoma when Pete was six weeks old and spent time near his dad’s family. After a few years, the family moved to Ozona where he spent his school years excelling in football, basketball, and track. He attended Sul Ross State, North Texas State, and Angelo (aiming toward a teaching degree) but changed direction to join the U.S. Border Patrol in 1967. His first duty station with the Border Patrol was in Eagle Pass, Texas, where he served as a Special Agent for 9 years. He transferred to Phoenix, Arizona in 1976 as an Immigration Criminal Investigator and after a year as a Supervisory Criminal Investigator. Pete then transferred to Houston in 1988, where he served until retirement in 2000. During his 32 year career, he received numerous awards and commendations. Pete loved his work and gave his all to his job, but the real love of his life was his family. He married Becky Cullins in 1963. The couple have two daughters, Susan and Michelle. After many years, along came his final loves, his five grandchildren, Kyle, Cody, Tegan, Reed, and Austin. After his retirement, he and Becky moved back to Arizona and he spent wonderful years being with his daughters and sons-in-laws and watching and helping his grandchildren, with scouting, baseball, football, cross country, badminton, and volleyball, teaching them to drive, and taking them fishing, camping, and hiking. Pete is survived by his wife, Becky, his daughters and sons-in-laws (Susan and Jeff Halberg and Michelle and Russ Good of Gilbert, Arizona); grandchildren (Kyle Halberg and Caitlyn Keeling of Springfield, Missouri; Cody and Erin Good of Gilbert, Arizona, Tegan Halberg of Phoenix, Arizona, Reed Halberg of Gilbert, Arizona, and Austin Good of San Diego, California); brother, Carl Montgomery, Jr. of San Angelo, Texas; niece, Amy Kitchens of Abernathy, Texas; nephew, Ben Montgomery of Clear Lake, Texas; cousins, Roy Glenn Sutton of Ozona, Texas, Bobby Sutton of California, Jimmy Sutton of McCamy, Texas, and Gary Sutton of San Antonio; and close friends Brent Moore, Pat Cane, and Bernie Beamsley. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents, Maudie and Mike Couch and Robert and Mary Montgomery.
