Johnnie Mae Easterwood passed from this Earth on November 2, 2017, at the age of 88. She now walks with her Lord and Savior.
Johnnie Mae was born on November 15, 1928, to John and Ida Mae West in Cheapside, Texas. In 1938, her family moved to Eldorado, Texas, where she graduated high school. She later married Doyle Ward Easterwood. Together, with their three children, they lived in Ozona, Texas, for some time prior to retiring to Aransas Pass, Texas. Johnnie Mae was a full-time homemaker and doting and loving mother and grandmother. She was very creative. Her grandchildren loved her bedtime stories that she would handwrite and illustrate.
She volunteered at both the Calvary Baptist churches of Ozona and Aransas Pass, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school. Putting her talents to God’s use, she helped paint the backdrop to the baptismal chamber at the Calvary Baptist Church in Ozona with her friend Vonnie Womack. She loved to play the organ. She wrote Christian music with lyrics, as well as a Christian novel.
Johnnie Mae was preceded in death by Doyle Ward, her son, Doyle West, and granddaughter Sabrina. She is survived by her daughters, Lesa Easterwood and Sue Carr, eight grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will celebrate her life with a private gathering. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.
