Esequiel L. Cervantes went to be with the Lord on May 5, 2017 at Ozona in the Crockett County Care Center. He was born January 29, 1935 in Ozona, Texas to Santos and Maria Cervantes. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his wife, Clara H. Cervantes, two brothers, Leo and Frank Cervantes, and three sisters, Teresa Sanchez, Emma Rebelez, and Senaida Martinez, all from Ozona, and 37 nieces and nephews.

Esequiel was born and raised in Ozona. He left home at the age of 16 to finish his education and study to be a minister. In 1951, he attended Bible School in Brownsville, Texas. The Women's Ministry of his church in Ozona continued to be a big part of his life. They helped him while in school by sending him money, clothing and gifts and, most importantly, keeping him in their prayers. He married Clara Hassett, of Corpus Christi. In 1958, he was drafted by the United States Armed Forces where he served his country as a solider. He is the fifth in the Cervantes Family to have served in the Armed Forces. While in the service, he worked at Walter Reed Medical Hospital as a Pathologist.

Rev. Esequiel Cervantes continued his education and held bachelor's and master's degrees in science. He also had a registry in medical technology. He retired as a science teacher with the Corpus Christi Independent School District after 20 years.

In 1998, he returned to Ozona where he started pastoring Templo Bautista Jerusalem, the church that paved the way for his calling into the ministry. After pastoring this church for 18 years, he retired in 2016.

Funeral services were Monday, May 8, 2017, at Templo Bautista Jerusalem with burial following in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at
