Kids engaged by Crockett County Library summer program

Ozona—The Crockett County public library ended its summer program on Tuesday, June 27. The program, which provided in total four weekly interactive activities for preschoolers through young teenagers, was a success.

“This definitely is something we’re going to bring back next year,” Jennifer Holmsley, the library director, said. The program included a plethora of interesting activities.

“Everyone was engaged, especially with the more interactive programs,” Holmsley said.

The first program featured Joe Weaver with the San Angelo Symphony.

“The kids loved him, and he’s someone we want to have back sometime soon,” she said.

Another gathering included The History of Cuckoo Clocks with Rebecca Law, in which participants created and decorated personal paper bag clocks, many of which are currently on display at the library.

The most successful week of the program was Mad Mouse Zoodio, a petting zoo that let students touch and hold snakes, lizards, millipedes, and even a giant tortoise. Over 100 students attended the event, which was put on by a petting zoo located in San Angelo.

“The kids loved that event because it was so interactive and interesting to them,” Holmsley said.

In the final program, students became "Certified Balloon Twisters" with balloon artist Mark Fuller.

“This one was a great end to the month because the kids learned how to make balloon swords by themselves and were able to participate in his show,” Holmsley said.

Even though the weekly interactive programs have ended, the summer fun is not over yet. During July, every Monday at 10 a.m., the library will host a family-friendly movie-watch party.

“The movie will be appropriate for kids, but anyone is invited to come,” Holmsley said.
