Elisa Flores DeHoyos
Elisa Flores DeHoyos, 83, passed away on October 27, 2023. She was born on September 21, 1940, to Leandro and Josefa Flores in Ozona, Texas.
As a child, Elisa would travel with her family doing different seasonal work such as clearing fields, cleaning cotton, and picking grapes. In 1957, Elisa married Onesimo “Oleo” DeHoyos. With only a 7th grade education, Elisa was nevertheless determined to have a career. While raising her 5 children, Elisa earned her GED and nursing degree. After graduating, she began working at the local nursing home in Ozona. In 1980, Elisa and her children moved to San Angelo, Texas where she continued to live for 40 years. Throughout that time, Elisa worked at several nursing homes in San Angelo with much of her career spent working at Baptist Memorial and Riverside Healthcare. Elisa was a devoted mother, sister, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening and growing her roses, playing bingo, and going to casinos. Her unconditional love and presence will be dearly missed.
Elisa is survived by 4 of her children, Rico DeHoyos, Delia DeHoyos, Roy DeHoyos, and Debra DeHoyos; brothers Leandro Flores Jr and wife Anna, Eldimiro Flores and wife Eduwina, Matias Flores and wife Argentina, Jesse Flores and wife Mary, Jaime Flores, Baldemar Flores and wife Irma, and Omero Flores; sister Virginia Gonzales; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Elisa is preceded in death by her parents Leandro and Josefa Flores; brothers Daniel Flores and Ismael
Flores; sisters Victoria De La Garza and Hilda Porras; son Orlando DeHoyos; and grandson Victor Omar Duarte.
Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Preddy Funeral Home in Ozona, Texas. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday,
October 31, 2023, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Lima Cemetery.
