Mary S. Fierro was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother. great-grandmother, and above all, a woman whose life was firmly rooted in her faith in God.
Mary lived to be a mother. It was not simply a role she held, but one of the greatest purposes and blessings of her life. She was the loving mother of her son, Dean, and carried forever in her heart her daughter, Hope, who precedes her in death, and whom she now joins in Heaven.
For 53 years, Mary shared her life with her beloved husband, Willie. Their marriage was one of companionship and devotion. They were always together, doing nearly everything side by side, building a life centered around faith, family, and love.
Mary was blessed with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom held a very special place in her heart. Her love for family extended to her many nieces, nephews, and their children, as well as her numerous godchildren throughout the community.
Mary was a woman of tremendous faith, and she lived that faith daily. She believed deeply in the power of prayer and taught her family to trust in God through both the good times and the difficult ones. Her faith was not something she simply spoke about—it could be seen in the way she treated people and in the way she lived her life.
She had an abundance of love to give and lived a life of service to others. Mary had a special heart for those most in need, especially those who could sometimes be the hardest to love. She believed everyone deserved kindness, compassion, and someone willing to care for them. That calling began within her own family and extended throughout her community.
Mary taught her family some of life’s simplest but most important lessons: keep your faith in God, believe in the power of prayer, be kind to others even when that kindness is not returned, and always follow your heart. She had a special gift for bringing people together. Mary loved family gatherings and treasured visiting with the lifelong friends she made along the way. When everyone gathered around her, there was always plenty of love, laughter, joy, and, of course, plenty of stories to be told.
Mary was also one of her family’s most faithful supporters. If one of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or their children had a sporting event, birthday, recital, quinceañera, or other special occasion, Mary did everything she could to be there. She didn’t just tell her family she loved them—she showed them by showing up. In her quieter moments, Mary enjoyed crafting, planting, and decorating for the seasons. She had a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, reflected in her cherished collection of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the many rosaries she collected throughout her life.
Yet Mary’s greatest treasures could never be measured by the things she owned. They were found in her husband, her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her extended family, her friends, her faith, and the countless people whose lives were made better simply because Mary was part of them.
Mary leaves behind much more than memories. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, kindness, family, and unconditional love—a legacy that will continue through every life she touched. Her faith was her foundation. Her family was her life. And love was her legacy.
