Rebecca "Becky" Montgomery

July 14, 2026

It is with broken hearts that the family of Rebecca (Becky) Montgomery faces the loss of their beloved mother, and Gammie. Becky left in the afternoon of June 25, 2026 from Gilbert, Arizona. She was the daughter of her beloved parents Daniel and Zella Cullins and was born in San Angelo, Texas on May 22, 1944.
She grew up in Ozona, Texas, the place she would always call home even when living in other states. Her father moved livestock, often being gone on long hauls. Her mother worked tirelessly waiting tables in several cafes and the truck-stop in Ozona. Among other activities Becky was on the twirling squad. She would tell of practicing her twirling in her Aunt Edith Deland’s yard specifically because it was overlooked by the front window of a handsome neighbor boy. She caught his attention and married Robert (Pete) Montgomery in 1963.
Becky and Pete moved a handful of times early in their marriage as Pete pursued a law enforcement career. Upon being transferred to Phoenix, AZ where they ultimately raised their daughters, Becky enrolled at and graduated from Arizona State University in 1979 with a teaching degree.
She taught English at Judson, Fremont, and Rhodes junior highs in Phoenix and Westfield High in Houston. Even later in retirement, Becky would substitute teach for her daughters who also were both educators, and at the high schools of her grandchildren.
Becky loved teaching and cumulatively taught thousands of students, but the real love of her life was her family.
The couple had two daughters, Susan and Michelle. After many years, along came her loves, her five grandchildren, Kyle, Cody, Tegan, Reed, Austin. After many more years, along came her final loves, her six great grandchildren, Hunter, Indy, Paxton, Zella, Meadow, and Ozzy. After her retirement, she and Pete moved back to Arizona and she spent wonderful years being with her daughters and sons-in-laws and caring for her grandchildren. She would watch late night true crime shows with them, attend their many sporting events, trade pocket money for chores, and did her best to instill in them a love of reading, and most importantly the Dallas Cowboys.
Becky is survived by her daughters and sons-in-laws (Susan and Jeff Halberg, and Michelle and Russ Good of Gilbert, Arizona); grandchildren (Kyle, Caitlyn, Indy and Meadow Halberg of Springfield, Missouri; Cody, Erin, Hunter and Paxton Good of Chandler, Arizona; Tegan, Joey, Zella and Ozzy Gamblin of Phoenix, Arizona; Reed Halberg and Kate Horner of Mesa, Arizona; and Austin and Madi Good of San Diego, California).
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her grandparents, George and Edith Cullins, and James and Maude Thurman, her in-laws Jane and Carl Montgomery, nephew Patrick Montgomery and niece Amy Kitchens.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be welcomed to Hospice of the Valley:hov.org

The graveside ceremony for Becky will be Tuesday July 21 at 9 a.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Ozona.
