Letter to the Editor

October 15, 2025

Dear Editor:

I have read with great interest the articles in the last two issues of the Stockman about our Care Center. I would submit to you, the citizens of Crockett County, that there are at least 4 issues that have not been reported.

1. Concerning billing: How can the Care Center be $1.9 million under budget when they don't have cash flow coming in? My mother has not received a bill since July, so she is currently living there for free. I have brought this to the attention of the staff and still have not received a bill.

2. Why were two employees, with years of dedicated service fired, and why have 4 more employees quit recently? We don't have a large pool of qualified people in this county to employ here, so we should be doing everything we can to retain employees.

3. Why is the morale of our remaining employees at an all-time low?

4. Why are we not getting any new residents? I have heard of multiple families who have sent their loved ones to nursing homes in neighboring towns because of the internal turmoil at our Care Center.

Please, fellow citizens, ask your elected officials to address these concerns also; otherwise our beloved Care Center may well shut down from lack of employees and residents.
