John David Hohertz
John David Hohertz passed suddenly on Jan. 26, 2012.
He was born June 8, 1959 in San Angelo, Texas He was a 1977 graduate from Ozona High School. Johnny's life's journey took him from Ozona to San Antonio Austin, Brownsville and back to Ozona where he was currently employed by Texas Energy. He loved music, playing the drums, crossword puzzles, The History Channel, studying passages from the Bible, and a cup of coffee.
We will miss our brother's quirky smile, artistic talent, his wit and wisdom.
He is preceded in death by his parents Bob and Joyce Hohertz. He is survived by his brother, Bobby Hohertz of McCamey; sisters, Debbi Hohertz Puckett, Lorelei Hohertz Sorrell, both of Ozona, and Lisa Hohertz Maldonado of Bee Cave, Texas. He also leaves behind five nieces, eight nephews and a host of many friends.
Brother, though we no longer see you, you will always be in our thoughts. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, our chain will link again.
Graveside service was Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012 in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Preddy Funeral Home.
Joe Louis Martinez
Joe Louis Martinez, age 57, went home to be with our Heavenly Father. He died in the comfort of his home on the estimated date of Jan. 22, 2012. Services were held Friday, Jan. 27, at Templo Siloe Assembly of God with burial at Lima Cemetery, directed by Preddy Funeral Home. Joe was born in Ozona on April 8, 1954. Joe was a great man and loving father. Joe had a generous soul and a big heart. He was a very spiritual man and enjoyed spreading the word of God to all that came into contact with him. He took pleasure in giving to others, especially those who were less fortunate. Joe had a big appetite for life and could always find the good in every situation. He was a hard worker and enjoyed learning new things and always had new interests. Some of his favorite past times were going fishing, finding eccentric treasures, traveling and spending time with his loved ones. Joe was a funny man and always knew how to make people laugh and feel warm inside. His laugh and zest for life was contagious and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his brother Abel Martinez III, his father Abel Martinez Jr. and his mother Esperanza Martinez. He is survived by his two sisters Elizabeth Morgan and Bettina Ortega as well as his two daughters Carly Martinez and Carole Prusinowski. Judge A.O. (Al) Fields
Judge A. O. (Al) Fields passed from this life on the 27th day of January 2012. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 30, 2012 under the direction of Preddy Funeral Home in the First Baptist Church, Ozona with graveside services in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
He was born May 15, 1913 in Choctaw County, Okla. to James N. and Dollie Fields. He came to Ozona in 1935 as manager of C. G. Morrison Co. The same year, he and Mildred Davis were married and to this union, Barbara (Bobbie) Griffin and Thomas (Tom) Fields were born. He was preceded in death by Mildred to whom he was married for 63 years.
In 1940, He was appointed by Crockett County as Deputy Tax Collector. He served until 1943 when his country called and he entered the armed services. During this time, he served in a CBI unit at Headquarters at New Deli, India and Chungking, China.
Following his army service, he returned to Ozona and joined Frank James Motor as Bookkeeper. In 1950, he was appointed U.S. Postmaster and served for two years. He then returned to James Motor Company. In 1955, he began a series of employments among several businesses in the area.
In 1960, he was appointed Justice of the Peace, Crockett County serving for 23 years. While serving in this elected position, he was never opposed in an election or re-election. In addition, he worked with the School -District as Business Manager and Veteran's Service Officer. Across this time, he also served as AAA range Inspector, Borden Milk Distributor, VFW Quartermaster, bookkeeper for Ozona Community Center and the Ozona Methodist Church.
His many other civic activities included Treasurer of the March of Dimes, Treasurer of the Ozona Civic Center and Democratic Committee Chairman.
In 1983, he was appointed Crockett County Judge and served five years. Following a two-year retirement he returned as Judge for an additional year, finally retiring in 1994. In 1986, he was named Crockett County Citizen of the Year and cited for his contributions to the community. The Crockett County Commissioners's Court declared Dec. 19, 1994 as A. O. Fields day in Crockett County. He was a member of the Methodist Church for many years serving as church treasurer. He was named the first Chamber of Commerce Legacy Award Winner in 2001.
In 2000, he joined the First Baptist Church of Ozona and married Betty Allen in the presence of their family and many friends.
Judge Fields is survived by his wife Betty Allen Fields of Ozona, daughter and and son-in-law Barbara (Bobbie) and Johnie Griffin, son Thomas A. Fields, stepson George Allen, grandchildren Gary Griffin and wife Jackie, Nancy Gail (Griffin) Skopak and husband John, Greg and wife Becky Griffin, Bambi Fields and husband Jesus Eyzaquirre, Tiffany (Fields) and husband Richard Reese. Judge Fields is survived by seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchilren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, brother Harold Fields, daughters in law Sondra (Daniel) Fields and Trudy (Bohrer) Fields.
