KIM WILSON, CCCCSD's new director of special and federal programs, talks to parents Eddie and Del Vinton during a Jan. 26 meeting about the district's special education program.

Special education meeting all about sharing information

Sharing and gathering information on Ozona Schools' Special Education Services was part of a public meeting last week. Parents, teachers, administrators and school board members gathered in the Ozona Elementary School Library to discuss how to improve the school district's special education program. Officials from the Region XV Education Service Center in San Angelo and the Menard Special Education Coop hosted the meeting."We all have a stake in the success of your child," said Superintendent Chris duBois at the meeting. Questions from the Texas Education Agency were used to conduct the meeting. The questions touched on every level and aspect of the school district and how Crockett Crounty CCSD is meeting students' needs. Click here to read more...

Facilities considerations clarified

This is the fourth in a series of planned informational articles aimed at informing the Ozona community in detail about aspects of current facilities planning and evaluation in CCCCSD. Readers are encouraged to contact school leaders and the board of trustees with questions and concerns. In addition to information published here, the District will be hosting a number of discussion sessions and site tours soon so that Crockett County citizens can have full, transparent information about school facility and possible bond planning.

In the first installments of this series, we have examined first why there is a need to continue a capital improvements program in Crockett County schools; secondly, why bonded debt is the best use of taxpayer resources to make any significant capital improvements; and thirdly, an exploration of how much debt may be appropriate to assume. Each publication in this series so far has included an invitation to contact me with any questions and concerns you may have regarding these discussions. I am happy to report that I am indeed receiving inquiries across several interests. Some questions are about financing options and structures available; some have been sparked by the recent presentation of conceptual drawings by architect Larry Harvey; others have been about the process that may eventually be employed in determining details of any proposed plan; and of course, and most commonly – I am asked how soon we could start, and how long a facilities program aimed at modernizing OHS would take. I would like to address some of these issues in this week's installment. Going forward, installments in this series will be offered as consideration to such matters has been deliberated by your School Board, or by the school administration team at their direction.
